Regular Season Round 21: Concordia - McGill 49-47

Round 21 in CIS means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Montreal where host Concordia (7-3) edged league's leader McGill (6-2) 49-47 on Saturday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 49-47. Concordia dominated on the defensive end, holding McGill to just 7 points in second quarter. They also forced 22 McGill turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Marilyse Roy-Viau (180) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Kaylah Barrett (173) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Guinean forward Mariam Sylla (185-93) who recorded 17 points and point guard Gabriela Hebert (173) added 6 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Concordia have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. McGill at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with UQAM. They were replaced at the leadership position by Concordia. McGill will play next round against Gaiters trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Concordia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
