Rather predictable result in Tokyo where seventh ranked Niigata (7-10) defeated 10th ranked Hitachi Cougars (3-14) 80-71. Hitachi Cougars were ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 45-35 second half run of Niigata. They also forced 19 Hitachi Cougars turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Niigata especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. Forward Nana Kondo (177-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 5 rebounds. The former international guard Hiromi Iwamura (168-81) contributed with 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Aiko Ishihara (178-92) answered with 20 points and guard Kasumi Takahashi (167-87) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Hitachi Cougars. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Niigata maintains seventh place with 7-10 record. Hitachi Cougars at the other side keep the tenth position with 14 games lost. Niigata's next round opponent will be higher ranked Fujitsu RW (#5) in Kawasaki and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
