Regular Season Round 17: Toyota A. - Fujitsu RW 73-49

The game between third ranked Fujitsu RW (13-4) and fifth ranked Toyota A. (13-4) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Fujitsu RW was crushed by Toyota A. in Nagoya 73-49. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Fujitsu RW. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 14-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 73-49. Toyota A. dominated on the defensive end, holding Fujitsu RW to just 2 points in second quarter. They also forced 21 Fujitsu RW turnovers and outrebounded them 39-22 including 26 on the defensive glass. Power forward Mami Ikeda (178-81) stepped up and scored 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and forward Mika Kurihara (178-89) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds. International forward Moeko Nagaoka (180-93) responded with 13 points and 5 rebounds and international swingman Chinatsu Yamamoto (175-91) scored 8 points and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota A. have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Fujitsu RW. Toyota A. is looking forward to face league's second-placed Denso Iris in Kariya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fujitsu RW will play at home against Niigata and is hoping to win this game.
