NBB top team - Flamengo (17-3) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they beat seventeenth ranked Espirito Santo (3-13) in Rio de Janeiro 90-73. The game was mostly controlled by Flamengo. Espirito Santo managed to win fourth quarter 26-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Flamengo forced 24 Espirito Santo turnovers and outrebounded them 42-29 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was the former international Marcelo Magalhaes (201-75, agency: Interperformances) who scored 25 points. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Flamengo's coach Jose Neto used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Arnaldinho Filho (187-78) who recorded 18 points and power forward Daniel Costa (204-81) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The victory was the thirteenth consecutive win for Flamengo. They maintain first place with 17-3 record. Espirito Santo lost their seventh game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Flamengo will meet at home Pinheiros (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
