Regular Season Round 17: Bnei Hertzeliyya - Maccabi T-A 88-90

Tenth-ranked Bnei Hasharon (5-12) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Maccabi T-A (13-4) in Hod Hasharon on Monday. The visitors from Tel-Aviv managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 16 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-88. Maccabi T-A made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Maccabi T-A made 7 blocks. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points. American-Georgian point guard Richard Hickman (189-85, college: NC-Greensboro) contributed with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Nigerian-American point guard Michael Umeh (188-84, college: UNLV, agency: Two Points) answered with 28 points and 4 assists and American power forward Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Bnei Hasharon. Four Bnei Hasharon players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-4 record behind leader Hapoel J-M. Bnei Hasharon lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi T-A's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tel-Aviv Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
