Ninth-ranked Angeles (15-17) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Abejas (24-11) in Acapulco on Wednesday. The visitors from Guanajuato managed to secure only two-point victory 94-92. However their fans expected much easier game. Angeles were trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 10-point lead after three quarters before a 24-12 charge of Abejas, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Angeles' 34. They outrebounded Angeles 42-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. American guard Roman Andrade (188, college: N.Mexico Highlands) stepped up and scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Venezuelan Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) chipped in 19 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) responded with 26 points and 4 assists and the other American import swingman O'Louis McCullough (198-82, college: Francis Marion) scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Abejas maintains fourth place with 24-11 record. Newly promoted Angeles keep the ninth position with 17 games lost. Abejas will face bottom-ranked Gansos (#14) in Ciudad de Mexico in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Angeles will play at home against Gigantes (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
