Fifth-ranked Quilmes MP (7-7) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Penarol (13-1) in Mar del Plata on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 85-82. However their fans expected much easier game. Quilmes MP was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Quilmes MP helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. International point guard Facundo Campazzo (179-91) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. The former international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American Walter Baxley (193-84, college: Mars Hill) replied with 24 points and center Diego Romero (206-82, college: Florida St.) added 14 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Quilmes MP. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 13-1 record. Newly promoted Quilmes MP keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Penarol are looking forward to face Atenas (#9) in Cordoba in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Quilmes MP will play on the road against Libertad Sunchales (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
