Regular Season Round 37: Toros - Halc.Rojos 80-92

LNBP top team - Halcones Rojos (29-7) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat fifth ranked Toros (20-10) in Nuevo Laredo 92-80. It looked good early as Toros took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Halcones Rojos had a 26-17 second period charge getting the lead and Toros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-92. It was a great shooting night for Halcones Rojos especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Puerto Rican forward Renaldo Balkman (201-84, college: S.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) contributed with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Halcones Rojos' coach Oscar Castellanos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and naturalized American forward Quentin Gonzalez (200-84, college: McNeese St.) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Toros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Halcones Rojos maintains first place with 29-7 record. Toros at the other side keep the fifth position with ten games lost. Halcones Rojos' next round opponent will be Halcones UV Xalapa (#8) on the road and are hoping to win another game. Toros will play against Soles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
