Very expected game when 12th ranked Valur (1-14) was defeated on the road by second ranked Keflavik (14-1) 106-92 on Thursday. The game without a history. Keflavik led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 24-of-30 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Keflavik forced 22 Valur turnovers. Strangely Valur outrebounded Keflavik 45-33 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Keflavik made 8 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Guard Gudmundur Jonsson (191-84) helped adding 19 points and 4 blocks. The best for the losing side was American forward Chris Woods (195-89, college: Pfeiffer) with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds and center Birgir Petursson (205-86) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Keflavik have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with KR. Valur lost ninth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Keflavik will face Thor Thorl (#5) in Thorlakshofn in the next round. Valur's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Reykjavik IR.
