Regular Season Round 15: IR - Grindavik 96-94

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Grindavik (10-5) against ninth ranked IR (5-10) on Thursday night. Visiting Grindavik was edged by IR in a tough game in Reykjavik 94-96. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Grindavik. It looked good early as Grindavik took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then IR had a 32-21 second period charge getting the lead and Grindavik was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 94-96. IR players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) accounted for 18 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. American-Dominican guard Lewis Clinch (191-87, college: Georgia Tech, agency: KMG Sports Management) came up with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international forward Omar Saevarsson (198-82) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Grindavik in the defeat. Five IR and four Grindavik players scored in double figures. IR maintains ninth place with 5-10 record. Defending champion Grindavik keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with Njardvik. IR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Reykjavik to the arena Valur.
