We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Leon where thirteenth ranked Lechugueros (9-27) defeated 12th ranked Correcaminos (8-27) 85-78 on Thursday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But Correcaminos won second period 20-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Correcaminos 42-31 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lechugueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard Glenn Stokes (170-76, college: American) stepped up and scored 30 points for the winners and Edgar Padilla chipped in 11 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American forward Sean Coleman (203-87, college: Houston) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import point guard Marquis Ayala (178) scored 16 points, 9 assists and 6 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lechugueros moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Correcaminos dropped to the thirteenth position with 27 games lost. Lechugueros will face higher ranked Huracanes (#7) in Tampico in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Correcaminos will play on the road against Panteras (#10) in Aguascalientes and hope to win that game.
