Regular Season Round 16: Breakers - Kings 105-87

There was a small surprise in Auckland where sixth ranked New Zealand Breakers (8-11) beat 4th ranked Kings (9-9) 105-87 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by New Zealand Breakers. Kings was better in third quarter 29-27. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Zealand Breakers made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Kings were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) fired 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Kerron Johnson (185-90, college: Belmont) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. American swingman Sam Young (198-85, college: Pittsburgh) produced 29 points and the former international center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Five New Zealand Breakers and four Kings players scored in double figures. Kings' coach Shane Heal rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 8-11 record. Loser Kings keep the fourth place with nine games lost. New Zealand Breakers will face again higher ranked Kings (#4) in Sydney in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
