Regular Season Round 25: Mount Royal - Alberta 63-90
Date: January 31, 2014
Everything went according to plan when first ranked Golden Bears (15-2) outplayed 5th ranked Cougars (7-9) in Calgary, AB 90-63 on Friday. The game without a history. Golden Bears led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 28 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Quite impressive performance for the former international guard Jordan Baker (192-91, college: Utah Valley) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Mamadou Gaeye (198) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Deng Awak (190) answered with 10 points and 7 rebounds and forward Kyle Wilson (198) added 10 points in the effort for Cougars. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Golden Bears. They maintain first place with 15-2 record, which they share with Victoria and Ottawa. Cougars lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Golden Bears will face Timberwolves (#7) in Prince George, BC in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Cougars will play on the road against the league's second-placed Huskies in Saskatoon, SK and hope to win that game.
