Regular Season Round 23: Winnipeg - UBC Okanagan 72-45

Date: January 31, 2014
There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Wesmen (8-9) rolled over 5th ranked Heat (5-16) in Winnipeg 72-45 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Wesmen. Heat was better in fourth quarter 18-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They held Heat to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Wesmen forced 27 Heat turnovers. Guard Kerri Kuzbyt (170) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 5 assists. Guard Megan Noonan (170) contributed with 13 points and 4 steals for the winners. Five Wesmen players scored in double figures. Forward Shenelle Tamminen (178) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and guard Angela White (170) added 7 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Heat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Wesmen. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Toronto Univ. Heat lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 16 games lost. Wesmen will face TRU (#4) in Kamloops in the next round. Heat will play at home against Manitoba and hope to win that game.
