Seventeenth-ranked Orchesien BC (8-19) gave a tough game to third ranked Chalons-Reims (18-8) in Orchies on Saturday. The visitors from Reims managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 40-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for swingman Michel Morandais (196-79, college: Colorado) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Florent Tortosa (196-89) helped adding 13 points. Chalons-Reims' coach Nikola Antic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American point guard Austen Rowland (186-81, college: Lehigh, agency: Court Side) with 15 points and 9 assists and the former international power forward Vassil Evtimov (208-77, college: N.Carolina) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Chalons-Reims have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Orchesien BC keeps the seventeenth position with 19 games lost. Chalons-Reims will face bottom-ranked Lille Metropole (#18) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Orchesien BC will play against Denain Voltaire and hope to win that game.
