Regular Season Round 18: Astoria Bydg. - WKK Wroclaw 76-70

We should mention about the upset which took place in Bydgoszcz, where higher ranked WKK Wroclaw (11-7) lost to twelfth ranked Astoria Bydg. (4-14) in a road game 70-76. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But WKK Wroclaw won fourth quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Astoria Bydg. dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to WKK Wroclaw's 28. Astoria Bydg. forced 19 WKK Wroclaw turnovers. 27 personal fouls committed by WKK Wroclaw helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Piotr Robak (192-91) notched 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Mateusz Bierwagen (196-88, agency: Promotex) supported him with 19 points. Even 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists by the former international swingman Bartosz Diduszko (198-87) did not help to save the game for WKK Wroclaw. Center Marcin Kolowca (209-87) added 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. WKK Wroclaw's coach Pawel Turkiewicz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Astoria Bydg. moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted WKK Wroclaw keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Astoria Bydg.'s next round opponent will be higher ranked MKS DG (#4) in Dabrowa Gornicza and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. WKK Wroclaw will play at home against Kutno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
