There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Sendai 89ers (12-15) were edged on the road by tenth ranked Shimane Magic (6-23) 79-77 on Saturday. Shimane Magic dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sendai 89ers' 30. Shimane Magic had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward T.J. Cummings (205-81, college: UCLA) stepped up and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and point guard Kouki Yamabuchi (183-84) chipped in 22 points. Shimane Magic's coach Vlasios Vlaikidis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American guard Wendell Wendell (198-84, college: UNLV) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import Travele Travel (203-88, college: Texas Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds. Four Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Shimane Magic maintains tenth place with 6-23 record. Sendai 89ers lost their third game in a row. They keep the seventh position with 15 games lost. Shimane Magic will face again higher ranked Sendai 89ers (#7) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
