Regular Season Round 26: Acadia - UNB 83-64

There was no surprise in Wolfville, NS where 5th ranked Varsity Reds (8-7) were outplayed by first ranked Axemen (12-3) 83-64 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Axemen. Varsity Reds was better in second period 20-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Varsity Reds 36-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. Varsity Reds were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international forward Owen Klassen (208-91) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Anthony Ashe (193) chipped in 17 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. point guard Javon Masters (183) responded with 26 points (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Jordan Irvine (193) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Axemen have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 12-3 record. Varsity Reds lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Axemen will face league's second-placed Huskies in Halifax, NS in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
