Regular Season Round 17: Notec - AZS UMK Torun 84-71

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Notec (11-5) beat 6th ranked AZS UMK Torun (8-8) in Inowroclaw 84-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Notec. AZS UMK Torun was better in third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Notec forced 21 AZS UMK Torun turnovers and outrebounded them 48-26 including a 23-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Karol Michalek (207-87, agency: Promotex) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward Mikolaj Grod (194-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Forward Tomasz Lipinski (201-78) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Zbigniew Malinowski (188-84) added 13 points and 5 assists in the effort for AZS UMK Torun. AZS UMK Torun's coach Maciej Deregowski rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Notec. They maintain third place in Group A with 11-5 record having just three points less than leader SKK Siedlce. Newly promoted AZS UMK Torun keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Notec will face Korsarz Gdansk (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. AZS UMK Torun will play against Basket Pila (#11) and hope to win that game.
