Regular Season Round 38: Gansos - Abejas 71-83

Very predictable result in Ciudad de Mexico where fourth ranked Abejas (25-11) beat bottom-ranked Gansos (3-35) 83-71. It looked good early as Gansos took an 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Abejas had a 25-16 second period charge getting the lead and Gansos were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 71-83. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Gansos' 46. Venezuelan Nestor Colmenares (203-87, college: Campbellsville) notched a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Abejas' coach Daniel Jaule allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 21 points and 7 rebounds by American CamRon Clay (203-82) did not help to save the game for Gansos. His fellow American import guard Harrison Smith (190, college: Texas Southern) added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Abejas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 25-11 record. Gansos at the other side stay dead last with 35 lost games. Abejas' next round opponent will be Lechugueros (#12) in Leon and are hoping to win another game. Gansos will play on the road against Halcones UV Xalapa and hope to win that game.
