Regular Season Round 38: Angeles - Gigantes 104-89
Date: February 1, 2014
Rather expected game in Acapulco where 11th ranked Gigantes (9-25) were defeated by ninth ranked Angeles (17-17) 104-89. It looked good early as Gigantes took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Angeles had a 29-21 second period charge getting the lead and Gigantes were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 89-104. The game was dominated by American players. Forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield) notched a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) supported him with 22 points and 4 assists. Five Angeles players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds by guard Javarris Barnett (200-89, college: Charlotte) did not help to save the game for Gigantes. Forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) added 27 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Newly promoted Angeles maintains ninth position with 17-17 record. Gigantes lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh place with 25 games lost. Angeles' next round opponent will be league's leader Halcones Rojos in Veracruz and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gigantes will play at home against Panteras (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
