Date: February 1, 2014
There was a small surprise in Sudbury, ON where sixth ranked Golden Gaels (9-9) edged one of their biggest challengers Voyageurs (11-7) 72-69 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 21-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Golden Gaels forced 22 Voyageurs turnovers. Strangely Voyageurs outrebounded Golden Gaels 36-23 including 25 on the defensive glass. Forward Patrick Street (193) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Sukhpreet Singh (188) chipped in 14 points during the contest. Four Golden Gaels players scored in double figures. Golden Gaels' coach Stephan Barrie allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Guard Josh Budd (186) responded with 24 points and forward Tychon Carter-Newman (191) scored 20 points and 5 rebounds. Golden Gaels moved-up to fifth place, which they share with TWU. Loser Voyageurs keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
