The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Valmiera (16-7) on the court of fifth ranked Jurmala on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Jurmala 67-56. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valmiera. The game was mostly controlled by Jurmala. Valmiera managed to win second period 17-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Jurmala won last quarter 16-6. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Valmiera to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Jurmala made 7 blocks. Forward Ervins Jonats (203-91) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Aigars Skele (192-92) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Jurmala's coach Ainars Zvirgzdins used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Ernests Kalve (200-87) responded with 11 points and 8 rebounds and the former international center Kaspars Cipruss (210-82) scored 13 points. Four Valmiera players scored in double figures. Jurmala maintains fifth position with 12-10 record. Valmiera at the other side still keeps top place with seven games lost. They share the position with Liepaja/Triobet. Jurmala are looking forward to face Saldus (#8) on the road in the next round. Valmiera will play against the league's second-placed Liepaja/Triobet (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
