Regular Season Round 22: Macae - Palmeiras 101-93

There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Macae (7-13) beat at home 10th ranked Palmeiras (9-11) 101-93 on Saturday. Palmeiras trailed by 15 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 41-33 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 93-101 at the end of the game. Macae made 32-of-39 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game, while Palmeiras only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Macae forced 26 Palmeiras turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Macae especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Palmeiras was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international Marcio Dornelles (194-75) fired 37 points (!!!) for the winners. The former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-82) chipped in 25 points and 4 steals. The former international Tiago Lima (201-81) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and Italian-Argentinian point guard Maximiliano Stanic (178-78, agency: Players Group) added 14 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Four Palmeiras players scored in double figures. Palmeiras' coach Hebert Betao Coimbra let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Macae maintains thirteenth position with 7-13 record. Palmeiras lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with 11 games lost. Macae will face higher ranked Paulistano (#4) in Sao Paolo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
