Regular Season Round 33: Oita H.Devils - Shinshu BW 80-91

The game between Top Four teams took place in Oita. 4th placed host Oita Heat Devils (14-15) lost to fourth ranked Shinshu BW (20-7) 91-80It looked good early as Oita Heat Devils took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Shinshu BW had a 24-12 second period charge getting the lead and Oita Heat Devils were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-91. Shinshu BW made 26-of-31 charity shots (83.9 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Oita Heat Devils helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) who led his team to a victory with 27 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: Florida St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Shinshu BW's coach Ryuji Kawai allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) answered with 30 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) added 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Oita Heat Devils. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Shinshu BW. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Iwate Big Bulls. Oita Heat Devils lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 15 games lost. Shinshu BW will have a break next round. Oita Heat Devils will play again at home against Shinshu BW (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
