Regular Season Round 16: 36ers - Taipans 89-87

No shocking result in a game in Findon where second ranked Adelaide 36ers (13-6) edged 5th ranked Cairns Taipans (9-12) 89-87 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 89-87. Adelaide 36ers dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Cairns Taipans' 48. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. International power forward Daniel Johnson (212-88, college: Pepperdine) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) for the winners. American point guard Gary Ervin (183-83, college: Arkansas) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) produced 17 points and 4 assists and the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (206-83, college: ODU) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Adelaide 36ers and five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. Adelaide 36ers maintains second position with 13-6 record having five points less than leader Wildcats. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the fifth place with 12 games lost. Adelaide 36ers will face Wollongong Hawks (#7) in Gwynneville in the next round where they are favorite. Cairns Taipans will play at home against Townsville Crocodiles and hope to win that game.
