Regular Season Round 18: JX Sunflowers - Hitachi Cougars 86-55

Leader JX Sunflowers delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they crushed 10th ranked Hitachi Cougars (3-15) 86-55 in Kashiwa. It looked good early as Hitachi Cougars took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then JX Sunflowers had a 24-11 second period charge getting the lead and Hitachi Cougars were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 55-86. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 24. JX Sunflowers forced 19 Hitachi Cougars turnovers and outrebounded them 40-23 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. International forward Yuki Miyazawa (181-93, college: Queens, NY) contributed with 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. The former international forward Mami Yamada (176-88) replied with 14 points and center Yuri Ikeuchi (180-89) added 12 points in the effort for Hitachi Cougars. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. JX Sunflowers (17-1) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position. Hitachi Cougars at the other side keep the tenth place with 15 games lost. JX Sunflowers will play against league's second-placed Chanson V-M in Shizuoka in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hitachi Cougars will play at home against Aishin Wings (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
