Date: February 1, 2014
Important game to mention about took place in Vancouver. Second ranked UBC (13-5) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 4th ranked Calgary (11-7) 56-53 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Calgary won third quarter 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when UBC won last quarter 13-11. The winners were led by forward Harleen Sidhu (188-90, college: Nebraska) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and guard Kris Young (178-92) supported her with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Even 8 points and 10 rebounds by American swingman Jessica Thielen (175, college: E.Washington) did not help to save the game for Calgary. Guard Tamara Jarrett (168-91) added 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. UBC have an impressive six-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Calgary lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the third place with seven games lost. They share the position with McMaster and Queen's. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
