Regular Season Round 24: Manitoba - UBC Okanagan 74-67

There was a minor upset in Winnipeg where 5th ranked Heat (5-17) was defeated by eighth ranked Manitoba (5-13) 74-67 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-13. But Heat won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Manitoba won last quarter 15-10. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Heat turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Allison Balasko (180) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Sheree Carmona-Galdamez (165) who added 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was point guard Emily Kanester (168) with 15 points and 4 steals and guard Sarah Allison (178-92) scored 13 points. Four Heat players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Manitoba moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Lethbridge and Brandon. Heat lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 17 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
