Regular Season Round 16: Tigers - Wildcats 57-81

Date: February 2, 2014
There was no surprise when 3rd ranked Melbourne Tigers (12-9) were crushed at home by first ranked Perth Wildcats (16-5) 81-57 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they stormed back winning two of next three quarters and won the game by 24 points. Perth Wildcats made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Melbourne Tigers were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American swingman James Ennis (201-90, college: Long Beach St.) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The other American import guard Jermaine Beal (191-87, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 21 points and 6 assists. Four Perth Wildcats players scored in double figures. Canadian center Scott Morrison (213-86, college: Portland St.) produced 8 points and 17 rebounds and the former international forward Mark Worthington (203-83, college: Metro St.) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perth Wildcats maintains first position with 16-5 record. Loser Melbourne Tigers keep the third place with nine games lost. Perth Wildcats will face bottom-ranked Townsville Crocodiles (#8) in Wulguru in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
