Very expected game in Puerto La Cruz where Panteras (0-2) were crushed by Marinos (2-0) 102-82 on Sunday. Marinos made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Marinos outrebounded Panteras 41-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. American-Qatari guard Trey Johnson (196-84, college: Jackson St., agency: Priority Sports) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86) chipped in 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Five Marinos players scored in double figures. At the losing side American point guard R.L. Horton (182-89, college: S.Mississippi) responded with 18 points and 7 assists and power forward Pedro Brito (204-82, college: San Jacinto) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marinos will face Guaiqueries (#7) in Porlamar in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Panteras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Cocodrilos.
