Regular Season Round 16: Venezia - Umbertide 60-63

The most exciting game of round 16 in the A1 took place in Venezia. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 6th ranked Venezia (8-8) to fourth ranked Umbertide (11-4) 63-60 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Venezia won fourth quarter 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American center Chante Black (195-85, college: Duke) fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. The other American import point guard Ashleigh Fontenette (172-89, college: Texas, agency: Two Points) chipped in 15 points and 5 steals. American guard Shannon McCallum (177-87, college: Charlotte) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Venezia players scored in double figures. Umbertide have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-4 record. Venezia lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Umbertide are looking forward to face La Spezia (#7) at home in the next round. Venezia will play against San Martino in San Martino di L and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
