Very important is a home loss of second ranked Lottomatica Roma (11-7) against eleventh ranked Air Avellino (9-9) on Sunday night. Host Lottomatica Roma was defeated by Air Avellino in a tough game in Roma 72-80. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-19. But Lottomatica Roma won third quarter 24-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Air Avellino won last quarter 19-12. The best player for the winners was American-Georgian Will Thomas (203-86, agency: Two Points) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Four Air Avellino players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Phil Goss (188-83, college: Drexel) who recorded 26 points and American-Nigerian forward Trevor Mbakwe (207-89, college: Minnesota) added 11 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Air Avellino moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Grissin Bon RE and Umana VE. Loser Lottomatica Roma dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. They share it with Montepaschi. Air Avellino will meet at home Cimberio Varese (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Lottomatica Roma will play against Cantu (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
