Regular Season Round 40: Angeles - Soles 86-97

Date: February 4, 2014
No shocking result in a game when third ranked Soles (27-9) beat 9th ranked Angeles (17-18) in Acapulco 97-86 on Tuesday. The game without a history. Soles led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great shooting night for Soles especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Soles made 7 blocks. American players dominated the game. It was a very good performance for forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi) contributed with 22 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) replied with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield) added 25 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Angeles. Five Soles and four Angeles players scored in double figures. Angeles' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Soles have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 27-9 record having six points less than leader Halc.Rojos. Newly promoted Angeles keep the ninth place with 18 games lost. Soles will face Huracanes (#7) in Tampico in the next round. Angeles will play on the road against Gansos in Ciudad de Mexico and hope to win that game.
