Regular Season Round 21: Haukar - Hamar 81-72

The game with biggest result difference took place in Hafnarfjordur. Local Haukar (14-7) beat 6th ranked Hamar (8-13) 81-72 on Wednesday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hamar. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-10. But Hamar won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Hamar's 22. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Haukar made 8 blocks. American swingman Lele Hardy (182-88, college: Clemson) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 21 rebounds for the winners and guard Margret Halfdanardottir (173-94) chipped in 17 points. Haukar's coach Bjarni Magnusson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American point guard Chelsie Schweers (170-89, college: Chris.Newport) with 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Marin Laufey Davidsdottir (172-94) scored 4 points and 16 rebounds. Haukar maintains second place with 14-7 record having four points less than leader Snaefell. Newly promoted Hamar keeps the sixth position with 13 games lost. Haukar will meet Keflavik (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hamar will play against Njardvik and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
