There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Recanati (8-12) was defeated at home by fourteenth ranked Reggio Calabr. (8-12) 75-70 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 43-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Reggio Calabr. well out of reach of Recanati shooting 74.5 percent from the field and made 85-of-93 free shots (91.4 percent) during the game, while Recanati only scored 69 points from the stripe. Strangely Recanati outrebounded Reggio Calabr. 81-59 including a 50-38 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 38 long-distance shots on high 74.5 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Reggio Calabr. made 19 blocks. Recanati was plagued by 91 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was point guard Gennaro Sorrentino (189-85) who scored 25 points. point guard Diego Monaldi (184-93, agency: Players Group) chipped in 19 points. American swingman Sean Mosley (192-89, college: Maryland) produced 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Matteo Fantinelli (195-93) added 5 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Reggio Calabr. moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Barese and Recanati. Reggio Calabr. will face bottom-ranked Bari (#16) at home in the next round.
