We should mention about the upset which took place in Firenze, where higher ranked Lucca (11-9) lost to fifteenth ranked Firenze (7-13) in a road game 69-85. Firenze well out of reach of Lucca shooting 75.0 percent from the field and made 81-of-87 charity shots (93.1 percent) during the game. Firenze forced 20 Lucca turnovers. Strangely Lucca outrebounded Firenze 93-80 including 36 on the offensive glass. They shot the lights out from three nailing 66 long-distance shots on high 89.2 percentage. Firenze players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 23 blocks. 88 personal fouls committed by Lucca helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by Croatian guard Damir Rancic (199-83) who scored that evening 27 points (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!) and point guard Alexander Simoncelli (188-86) supported him with 16 points and 8 assists. Four Firenze players scored in double figures. Even 19 points and 8 rebounds by American forward Demetrius Conger (198-90, college: St.Bonaventure) did not help to save the game for Lucca. His fellow American import point guard Michael Deloach (183-86, college: Norfolk St.) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Newly promoted Firenze maintains fifteenth position with 7-13 record. Lucca at the other side dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. Firenze's next round opponent will be higher ranked Naturhouse Ferrara (#3) on the road and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
