Very predictable result when third ranked Thunderbirds (11-8) won against 8th ranked Heat (3-17) in Kelowna, BC 69-58 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Heat was better in fourth quarter 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Thunderbirds forced 22 Heat turnovers. Heat was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for forward Tommy Nixon (198) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Jordan Jensen-Whyte (196-94) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Mike Zayonc (196) replied with 10 points and 8 rebounds and guard Mitch Goodwin (188) added 9 points and 5 steals in the effort for Heat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Thunderbirds have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 11-8 record having ten points less than leader Windsor. Heat lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with 17 games lost. Thunderbirds will have a break next round. Heat will play again at home against Thunderbirds (#3) and hope to win that game.
