Regular Season Round 28: Ryerson - Algoma 86-65

Very expected game when 7th ranked Thunderbirds (5-15) were smashed by third ranked Rams (14-6) in Toronto, ON 86-65 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Rams. Thunderbirds was better in second period 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Thunderbirds to just 7 points in third quarter. Rams made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Rams had a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. Thunderbirds were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for forward Juwon Ogunnaike-Grannum (198) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Jahmal Jones (183-91) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Reynaldo Carnakie (193) replied with 19 points and Tristan Forbes (193) added 2 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Thunderbirds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Rams maintains third position with 14-6 record having six points less than leader Windsor. Loser Thunderbirds dropped to the sixth place with 15 games lost. Rams will face Voyageurs (#4) in Sudbury, ON in the next round. Thunderbirds will play on the road against Blues in Toronto, ON and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
