Regular Season Round 15: PAOK - Panathinaikos 83-77

The game between second ranked Panathinaikos (12-3) and seventh ranked PAOK (7-9) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Panathinaikos was defeated by PAOK in a tough game in Thessaloniki 77-83. PAOK made 32-of-36 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game, while Panathinaikos only scored thirteen points from the stripe. 31 personal fouls committed by Panathinaikos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for swingman Stavroula Spanidou (179-84) who led her team to a victory scoring 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Dimitra Telidou (170-80) helped adding 19 points and 6 rebounds (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). The best for the losing side was American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and naturalized American guard Jacki Gemelos (182-88, college: USC) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Panathinaikos' coach Giasemi Samandoura rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. PAOK moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Athinaikos. Defending champion Panathinaikos keeps the second position with three games lost. PAOK is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ikaros (#10) in Glyfada in the next round. Panathinaikos will play at home against Proteas (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
