Regular Season Round 20: Hitachi Cougars - Chanson V-M 72-71

A very close game took place in Hitachinaka between Hitachi Cougars and Chanson V-M. Tenth ranked Hitachi Cougars (4-16) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Chanson V-M (15-5). Hitachi Cougars managed to escape with a 1-point win 72-71 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 1 point. Hitachi Cougars made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Hitachi Cougars especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. The best player for the winners was point guard Ai Tominaga (162-91) who scored 14 points. Center Yuri Ikeuchi (180-89) chipped in 13 points. Four Hitachi Cougars players scored in double figures. Center Miyuki Kawamura (183-94) produced 16 points and 5 rebounds and forward Naoko Chikahira (180-93) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Hitachi Cougars maintains tenth position with 4-16 record. Loser Chanson V-M keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Hitachi Cougars will meet higher ranked Mitsubishi K. (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Chanson V-M will play against Fujitsu RW and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
