Regular Season Round 29: Toyota Alvark - Mitsubishi DD 89-62
Date: February 8, 2014
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tokyo. Second ranked Toyota Alvark faced 3rd placed Mitsubishi Dolphins. Host Toyota Alvark (25-8) smashed guests from Nagoya (17-16) 89-62. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Mitsubishi Dolphins was better in fourth quarter 23-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mitsubishi Dolphins to just 7 points in first quarter. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Mitsubishi Dolphins' 26. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) nailed 24 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) accounted for 21 points and 11 rebounds. Senegalese-French forward Amath M'Baye (206-89, college: Oklahoma) came up with 13 points and 7 rebounds and the former international power forward Shunsuke Ito (204-79) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Mitsubishi Dolphins in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Toyota Alvark. Defending champion maintains second place with 25-8 record behind leader Aishin SH. Mitsubishi Dolphins at the other side keep the third position with 16 games lost. Toyota Alvark's next round opponent will be Tsukuba R. (#5) at home. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play against Chiba Jets and hope to win that game.
