Regular Season Round 24: Pinheiros/Sky - Basquete Cearense 93-73
Date: February 8, 2014
Very predictable result in Sao Paolo where second ranked Pinheiros (15-5) smashed 8th ranked SKY/Basquete (11-11) 93-73 on Saturday. The game without a history. Pinheiros led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Pinheiros forced 19 SKY/Basquete turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by SKY/Basquete's players. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Joe Smith (192-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 6 rebounds and 13 assists and naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) who added 22 points and 4 assists (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) during the contest. Four Pinheiros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Brandon Brown (178-89, college: Montana-West) with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Jimmy de Oliveira (189-90) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-5 record having nine points less than leader Flamengo. Loser SKY/Basquete keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Pinheiros will face Unitri (#7) in Uberlandia in the next round where they are favorite. SKY/Basquete will play at home against Liga Sorocaba and hope to win that game.
