Very predictable result when sixth ranked La Rochelle (13-7) defeated at home 16th ranked Saint-Brieuc (6-15) 78-71 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Saint-Brieuc won third quarter 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. La Rochelle made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. Point guard Samir Mekdad (188-86) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and guard Faycal Sahraoui (188-79) chipped in 12 points and 8 assists. Four La Rochelle players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was center Nicolas Kaczmarow (204-83) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and forward Jimmy Lupot (190-83) scored 16 points. Saint-Brieuc's coach Denis Mettay rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. La Rochelle moved-up to fifth place. Saint-Brieuc lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. La Rochelle will face Lourdes-Tarbes (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Saint-Brieuc will play against Sorgues BC and hope to win that game.
