Regular Season Round 13: Estudiantes - Araski AES 50-48

Date: February 8, 2014
No shocking result in a game in Madrid where seventh ranked ASEFA Estudiantes (6-7) edged 11th ranked Araski AES (3-10) 50-48 on Saturday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 15-11 charge, which allowed them to win the game. ASEFA Estudiantes forced 25 Araski AES turnovers and had a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Araski AES was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Elena Diaz (188-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and guard Irene Goicoechea (173-94) chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Christina Dewitt (188-87, college: N.Carolina, agency: Gamble Sports Management) responded with 8 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Arrate Agirre (174-93) scored 15 points and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. ASEFA Estudiantes moved-up to sixth place in Group B. Newly promoted Araski AES keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. ASEFA Estudiantes will face higher ranked Promete (#4) in Logrono in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Araski AES will play at home against Segle XXI (#5) and hope to win that game.
