Seventeenth-ranked Espirito Santo (3-16) gave a tough game to ninth ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (10-11) in Vila Velha on Saturday. The visitors from Bauru managed to secure only three-point victory 88-85. However their fans expected much easier game. Espirito Santo was trailing by 7 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 24-22 charge of Paschoalotto/Bauru, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 11-8. Paschoalotto/Bauru made 29-of-31 free shots (93.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Espirito Santo turnovers. The best player for the winners was point guard Ricardo Fischer (185-91) who scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). The former international point guard Larry Taylor (185-80, college: Missouri Western) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Eddy Carvalho (194-87) who recorded 37 points (!!!) and swingman Edu de Oliveira (195-83, college: E.Oklahoma St. JC) added 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively. Paschoalotto/Bauru maintains ninth position with 10-11 record. Espirito Santo lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost. Paschoalotto/Bauru will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Espirito Santo will play against Macae (#15) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
