Eleventh-ranked Azpeitia (5-10) was very close to win a game against seventh ranked Palma (10-6) in S'Arenal on Sunday. Palma managed to secure only one-point victory 99-98. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 11 points after three quarters before their 31-20 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 0-point victory in double-overtime. American point guard John DiBartolomeo (183-91, college: Rochester, agency: Duran International) saved the victory by scoring 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Ivan Matemalas (194-80) contributed with 25 points for the winners. DiBartolomeo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Nigerian-American forward Ike Okoye (206-86, college: Boise St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds and guard Lander Lasa (193-88) added 19 points in the effort for Azpeitia. Four Palma and five Azpeitia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Palma have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Azpeitia at the other side dropped to the twelfth position with ten games lost. Palma will face Castello (#6) in Castellon in the next round. Azpeitia will play at home against Prat (#3) and hope to win that game.
