Regular Season Round 21: Toyota B SR - JX Sunflowers 61-87

Leader JX Sunflowers delivered the nineteenth win on Sunday night. This time they crushed 7th ranked Toyota B SR (8-13) 87-61 in Aichi. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Toyota B SR. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Toyota B SR managed to win second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Toyota B SR's 34 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Toyota B SR 42-25 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. JX Sunflowers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) who scored 26 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The former international forward Yuka Mamiya (185-90) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Four JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Yoshie Watanabe (162-86) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Tomomi Ikeda (169-88) added 7 points and 6 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 19-2 record. Toyota B SR at the other side keeps the seventh position with 13 games lost. They share it with Niigata. JX Sunflowers are looking forward to face Fujitsu RW (#5) in Kawasaki in the next round. Toyota B SR will play at home against Hitachi Cougars and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
