Regular Season Round 29: Toyota Alvark - Mitsubishi DD 92-70

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Tokyo. Second ranked Toyota Alvark faced 3rd placed Mitsubishi Dolphins. Host Toyota Alvark (25-8) smashed guests from Nagoya (17-16) 92-70. The game was mostly controlled by Toyota Alvark. Mitsubishi Dolphins managed to win fourth quarter 21-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyota Alvark dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Mitsubishi Dolphins' 44. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) stepped up and scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Philip Ricci (202-80, college: Oregon St.) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Five Toyota Alvark players scored in double figures. Senegalese-French forward Amath M'Baye (206-89, college: Oklahoma) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Shunsuke Ito (204-79) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 25-8 record behind leader Aishin SH. Loser Mitsubishi Dolphins keep the third position with 16 games lost. Toyota Alvark will meet at home Tsukuba R. (#5) in the next round. Mitsubishi Dolphins will play against Chiba Jets and hope to secure a win.
