Regular Season Round 29: Hitachi SR - Hyogo S. 97-71
Date: February 9, 2014
The game in Tokyo supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Hyogo S. (6-24) played at the court of fifth ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (10-23). Hitachi Sunrockers smashed Hyogo S. 97-71 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Hitachi Sunrockers. Hyogo S. was better in third quarter 26-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hyogo S. 49-32 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Darius Rice (208-82, college: Miami, FL) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. Power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Forward Carl Hall (203-89, college: Wichita St.) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and swingman William Knight (196-79, college: UCLA) added 24 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hitachi Sunrockers maintains fifth place with 10-23 record. Hyogo S. lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 24 games lost. Hitachi Sunrockers will face league's leader Aishin Sea Horses in Kariya in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hyogo S. will play on the road against Tochigi Brex and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
